About

Professor Tommy Chan is a Full Professor of Civil Engineering in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at QUT. Professor Chan has been actively involved in carrying out research on bridge engineering and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and its applications to bridges and buildings. He has published over 360 technical articles and has over a quarter of century experience in SHM of various significant long span bridges in Hong Kong and mainland China. His research and consultancy work on the four cable supported bridges in Hong Kong dates back as early as their construction.

He is also a professional engineer and Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers. He is the founding Chair and President of ANSHM (the Australian Network of Structural Health Monitoring). Besides SHM, bridge engineering and innovative constructive materials, his research interests also include structural dynamics, Moving Force Identification, optical fibre sensors, inverse problems and Weigh-in-Motion Studies.
