Jing Zhao

ARC DECRA Fellow, School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering (MERE), UNSW Sydney

Dr. Jing Zhao is a DECRA Research Fellow in the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering (MERE) at UNSW Sydney and an Honorary Research Fellow at the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI), The University of Queensland.

Dr. Zhao’s research spans environmental engineering, microbiology, microbial molecular science, and microsensor technology, with a strong focus on leveraging microbial processes to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for the mining industry. Her industry experience encompasses diverse areas, including mine waste management, sensor development for hormone detection, and gas sensor innovation for underground mining environments as well as the design of biological wastewater treatment processes. With multidisciplinary expertise and an unwavering commitment to sustainability, Dr. Zhao is dedicated to driving innovation for a more sustainable future.

Jing is currently leading the project, “Nanosensor Integration and Manufacturing Technology for Safe Mining” focusing on the development of gas sensors for underground mining.
