About

Binghao Li is Senior Lecturer with the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering (MERE) at UNSW.

He has a BE in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University, China (1994) and a ME in Civil Engineering from Tsinghua University, China (2001). He received his PhD in Spatial Information Systems from UNSW in 2006. He was a VC’s Post-Doctoral Fellow (2010-2012), School of Surveying and SIS, UNSW.

Dr Li is a leading researcher in indoor positioning and indoor navigation (IPIN) and Mine Internet of Things (MIoT) in Australia. His interdisciplinary background and industry working experience helped him to create a strong relationship with industry partners and commercialise his research outcomes such as an asset tracking system, a navigation system for people who are blind or have low vision, and a collision avoidance system for underground mines.

He has created and leads the MIoT & IPIN Laboratory within MERE. The laboratory consists of 10+ staff members and seven student members and is supported by more than 15 industry partners and research institutes. He has published over 100 journal articles, conference papers and magazines, and has been granted three patents.  The total research income in his career is over $5.4 million including two ARC linkage projects, one CRC-P project, and two ARC hubs. He is the steering committee member of the International Conference on Indoor Positioning and Indoor Navigation since 2012.
