About

Professor Abbas Rajabifard is an internationally recognized scholar and geospatial engineer and has a strong track record in research and teaching. He is an active academic leader in sustainability and resilience, land system modernization, and the development of Digital Twins for urban systems. He is the Director of Smart and Sustainable Development in the Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Melbourne and is a Board Member of the United Nations-Academic Network for Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), which is a research and training arm of the UN to support sustainable development goals-SDGs.

Professor Rajabifard’s academic background is in Surveying and Mapping, Land Administration and Urban Systems, and he has maintained a high level of performance across research, RHD supervision, and service to the profession and the university. He has active research projects in the areas of Digital Twin, modernisation of land administration, 3D cadastre, BIM and urban analytics, SDGs, resilience and disaster management, and multi-sourced data integration and visualisation.

Professor Rajabifard’s research work has particularly influenced several United Nations Resolutions and Declarations and governments across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East in how they build, use and administer their land and spatial information infrastructure, with state and national governments in Australia, and governments in different regions. He has published broadly and supervised many successful PhD and Masters students. He is also a member of the editorial board of several international journals.
