Haowen Xu

ABOUT

Dr. Haowen Xu is a Researcher at the Geospatial Research Innovation and Development (GRID) group at the University of New South Wales, Australia. He previously served as a Research Scientist at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory and as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He received his PhD from the University of Iowa, USA, along with a Graduate Certificate in Informatics. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 35 conference papers. He has received competitive research funding and has served as a Co-PI on multiple national projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. His research contributions have been recognised with multiple Best Research and Best Poster awards at major international conferences and professional societies, including IEEE, IBPSA, CIE, and AWRA. He is also an inventor on two U.S. patents. His research focuses on the application of generative and agentic AI, digital twins, scientific computing, and physics-informed simulation for urban, environmental, and infrastructure systems.
