Process Control and System Optimisation Specialist

About

Dr James Ciyu Qin is currently a Process Control and System Optimisation Specialist at Advanced United Technologies. He received a BE (Hons) degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and a PhD in Systems Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2019 and 2024, respectively. His primary research focuses on enhancing the resilience, performance, and security of complex systems through various robust optimisation techniques. His research interests include developing preventive procedures that account for the risk of system failures and providing risk-aware prevention measures for resilience enhancement. His work also encompasses corrective measures post-contingency to improve planning for effective ex-post response and recovery, with an emphasis on the computational efficiency of these methods when applied to large-scale, real-world systems. Collaborating with Swissgrid, Dr Qin has conducted research on power system modelling and optimisation at the Reliability and Risk Engineering Lab, Institute of Energy Technology, ETH Zurich, Switzerland.
